At least they’re not saying they plan to apply right wing principles to “urban-surburban hip-hop settings.” But Human Events, which is your grandfather’s winger mag, is preparing to launch an all-out push to get fresh for the kids.
From the in-box, an “urgent appeal” from Red State’s Erick Erickson, that came with the subject line, “I’m really worried” …
So what’s the plan? Human events breaks it down:
Cool! I wonder what celebrities they’ll get … that lady with the high voice who used to be on Saturday Night Live? Or Dennis Miller and Kelsey Grammer …? Isn’t Dog the Bounty Hunter a conservative? That would be cool. And Donald Trump … the kids’ll love that… Come to think of it, isn’t Britney Spears a conservative!??
Too bad the average Fox News viewer is on a Metamucil drip, and ditto for the dittoheads who listen to Limbaugh, Beck, et.al. on right wing talk radio. Or that conservatives are only funny when they’re being played by Stephen Colbert (see Dennis Miller above …) while in real life, they disdain young people so much they’re trying to throw roadblocks in the way of their voting at all.
Even if Human Events raises a ton of money for their online thing, young people are still going to favor gay marriage, help for the poor, and all the other stuff conservatives hate. And Human Events, nee 1944, whose list of contributors includes Oliver North, Pat Buchanan, Sean Hannity, Newt Gingrich, Ted Nugent, Chuck Norris and Pat Sajak, and whose conservative of the year in 2010 was Jim DeMint (the year before that it was Dick Cheney), might not really have a shot at pulling the under 30 crowd for whatever stiff the GOP nominates to run with Michele Bachmann next year.
Republicans have done a better job than Democrats at recruiting young, telegenic candidates like Sean Duffy, Aaron Schock, Nikki Haley and Marco Rubio, but the Congressional recruits are going to be a bit busy defending themselves in town halls over their votes to privatize Medicare. And it remains to be seen if the far right positions of people like Rubio and Haley will appeal to younger, non-right wing audiences, assuming “Click to Victory” decides to put the politicos to work.
Doesn’t sound too promising, but hey, nothing beats a fail but a try, right? We’ll see what kind of content they come up with.
